Tree work in Droitwich Spa
Droitwich Spa mixes a historic centre, Victorian and Edwardian houses from its spa days and large modern estates around the edge of town. That gives tree surgeons a mix of work: big mature trees in older gardens and parks, plus fast-growing conifers, birches and hedges that are now too big for estate gardens. Wychavon District Council handles Tree Preservation Orders, and many newer estates have protected trees left over from planning conditions. The firms below work in WR9.
- On newer estates, trees kept during development are often covered by a TPO or a planning condition. Check before you prune.
- Leylandii and other fast conifers planted as screening are one of the most common jobs on the estates.
- If a tree on your estate is protected, a tree surgeon can make the application to Wychavon for you. Allow time for a decision.
Protected trees in Droitwich Spa
Tree Preservation Orders and conservation-area notices in Droitwich Spa are handled by Wychavon District Council. Check before any felling or major pruning. A good tree surgeon will check for you, but the legal responsibility sits with the owner. Trees beside public roads are the responsibility of Worcestershire County Council as highway authority. See the council's protected trees page. Our guide to TPOs and conservation areas explains how applications work.

How to choose a tree surgeon
- Insurance: ask to see a public liability certificate (the Arboricultural Association recommends at least £5m), and employers' liability, which is a legal requirement if they have staff.
- Qualifications: chainsaw and climbing work should be done by people holding NPTC (City & Guilds) or Lantra certificates. Arboricultural Association Approved Contractor status is a stronger check.
- A written quote: it should say exactly what will be cut, whether the stump is ground out, and whether waste and logs are taken away.
- Standards: ask whether the work will follow BS 3998, the British Standard for tree work.
- Protected trees: a good firm will check for a TPO or conservation area and can make the application. See our TPO guide.
